This page includes flowers and trees as well as butterflies which we saw on our two trips to Africa.  One of the biggest surprises on these trips were the wildflowers.  This was especially true of our second trip.  We learned that there are only six floral regions in the world and the smallest of those is southern Africa.  However, it also has the highest density of flower species with over 20,000 in this small area.  Furthermore, almost half of those - about 9000 - are just at the southern tip area of South Africa.  Everywhere we walked there, we would run into flowers - some larger and others so small and scraggly that you could easily miss them.  I bought a book to identify the flowers and found that of the 9000 species, the book only covered about 1100 and none smaller than an inch in diameter.  So most of these flowers go unlabeled.  If you happen to see one that you know and it's not identified, please let me know so I can update it.
